The most ridiculous line item charge maybe?

Reviewing this folio from a recent stay, I inquired to the property in regards to the $1.50 "Safe Charge"

Their response, "There is a safe in every room, and unless you state that you won't be using it we have that charge." ⊙_ʘ

Must we have to declare what we will and not be using upon check-in? By far one of the most ridiculous charges I've seen

It has since been removed and refunded [insert eye roll]

Back in my college days, I worked at a hotel, and there was an automatic safe charge. It generated more guest aggravation than revenue. I haven't seen such a charge in decades. It's interesting that it's still out there.

This was presumably one of Wyndham's more "budget" brands. (I can't open your image since I'm at work and my work blocks that site.)

I've seen this same sort of "safe use charge" (added to the folio automatically unless you ask for it to be removed) at budget brands in other hotel groups, for example at some Quality Inn locations (in the Choice Hotels family).

I encountered this a few years ago at a Quality Inn.

I saw this at the Days Inn PHX a few years ago, thankfully I noticed the fine print on my reservation and was able to have it removed. It's a pretty crappy way to make a few extra bucks if you ask me.

Wow...

Let's hope they don't institute a charge for the room key "if you use it".
