Extending points expiration date with no-fee card?

I am interested in getting the Barclays Wyndham credit card. The current offer is for 45,000 points; it has an annual fee.

After the first year of having this card could I get downgraded to the no-fee version of the card - and in doing so could I then keep the 45,000 points I had earned from the card with the fee? And by using the no-fee card for purchases I could extend the expiration date for the points?

I have emailed Wyndham about this but have not yet heard back from them.
I thought someone here might be familiar with this situation.
Someone asked about this in the Credit Card forum but no one there has replied with an answer.

There are two kinds of expiration at WyndhamRewards:

The "soft" expiration after 18 months of no activity can be avoided (extended) by having activity, which includes earning of points which includes from spending on the credit card.

The "hard" expiration after 4 years (for each point from the date it's earned) has no way to be extended.
