Don’t leave your status behind - double qualifying spend promo May-September 2022

I got an e-mail this morning from WS about a new promo to double qualifying spend for the next few months. Looks like it only applies to new bookings, unlike the recent similar AC promo. Only applies to those who already have status. Not sure whether this is further targeted; it doesn't seem to show up on the offers and promotions page.

Key terms:
Registration period: May 24 - July 5, 2022
Booking period: May 24 - July 5, 2022
Travel period: May 24 – September 6, 2022
Eligible flights: All WestJet marketed flights
Qualifying spend bonus: 100% more tier and milestone qualifying spend on eligible base fares
Eligible fares: Econo, EconoFlex, Premium, PremiumFlex, Business, BusinessFlex (excludes Basic and Member Exclusive fares)

This is a very weak attempt by WestJet to claim "double qualifying spend promo". It appears existing booked travel will not qualify. It is just a ploy to sell new tickets or pay more to rebook. Very lame.

Agreed. It seems like a bit of a slap in the face to truly loyal WestJet customers (like me) who already have almost all travel during this promo period booked and paid for on WestJet.

Super frustrating.

Already booked

So if I have a business class ticket already booked and it's the same price can't I just cancel (for free) and use my travel credits to repurchase the tickets and get the double teir credits? Or does travel bank purchases not count towards tier earn? I'm surprised the flight leaves in 3 days and still the same price.

If the price of the ticket doesn’t change over time, it is an indication that the Revenue Planners set the right price originally to optimize revenue vs the number of seats sold, in that revenue bucket for that flight.

Yes, you can cancel and rebook - Travel Bank credits can be spent on a new booking almost immediately, and are the same as cash when it comes to status earn.
Don't forget to register for the promotion before you rebook!

Just weird pricing. It's Barcelona to Edmonton 1 way economy 940 - premium 1400 amd business 1140 on the Dreamliner. Cheapest I've seen canada to Europe business on the dreamliner is 2600 1 way. Was able to cancel.my ticket and buy a new one with travel bank. 850 base so hopefully 1700 tier.
