Meals on Westjet flights in J, W, and Y cabins

Thought I would start a thread about meals on Westjet flights in all cabins. Let’s talk about the good, the bad, the ugly. If anyone has photos of their dining experiences that would be appreciated too! Thank you!

And to comment on a post made in another thread about meals on TA flights on narrow body aircraft, the MAX doesn’t have a ton of galley room in the aft to accommodate meals and TSUs for 162 guests. So maybe that’s why buy on board was still offered when those aircraft did fly TA routes??

I recently flew on WS in Premium from YYZ to YVR. The food was underwhelming and I was disappointed. Haven’t been in J on AC for a while so can’t compare it but I’m going to try AC for my next trip.

From what I saw on a similar 737 galley for economy , you most certainly can accommodate enough meals. From a friend whom works for DNATA catering . What they would or could do , with only 2 ovens in the rear, is rotate hot meals and unheated meals. more hot casserole dishes can be heated whilst they begin service. This was common practice one crew explained to me on a hop in Europe . This one crew on royal jordanian showed me how they go about it on their 737. They only had two ovens in the aft galley. They did not use trays rather boxed appetizers and dessert . Each double cart of theirs could accommodate approximately 84 of these boxes similar to these ones

They had two double trollies filled with these similar boxes

The crew would place the hot casserole meals on top of the cart and with a napkin hand the hot meal with the box offering. It was quite efficient use of space.

Westjet can most certainly rearrange their galleys , airlines do them all the time .

Well Premium is not J cabin . One cannot truly compare the two equally.

I know there was talk about the 737 YHZ-CDG hop in another thread about schedules.

I took it on a full 737-700 when WJ ran it for 2 weeks before suspending it. The flight is so late in the evening, I don't think anyone would be hungry anyway. Most people were asleep. We came in from YYZ, and there was no problem having dinner at YHZ during the 1h40 layover. We got off the gate, and our next gate was the one right next to it. We had a full dinner at YHZ within sight of the gate and the airport is dead at that time (it's 10-11PM). The lack of free alcohol/food service kept the flight quiet and without any commotion for service/WC.

Can't comment on the other way, but leaving from CDG T3 won't help as it has the poorest food options, but PAUL isn't bad.

For now. CDG consolidated a bunch of operations, including shutting down T3 due to COVID. I think Westjet will be back in T3 once things settle down (ie: when they manage to relaunch YHZ-CDG).

I was surprised YYZ still ran both terminals, but I heard Star Alliance had a monopoly on T1, so they ran both terminals anyway at way below 50% capacity. Good for distancing I guess.

WS was operating prior at Terminal 1 not 3.
I believe they will continue to operate in terminal 2 E, to better align timings with Air France connections for the expanded codeshares.

You're right, T1 not T3. Would love for WJ to integrate better with AF.

I'll be flying YVR-HNL (coming in from SEA on DL) in Premium. Any experience with the meals in J on this route?

WS 737 is configured with W and Y cabins only , the W cabin is standard 2 x 2 seating , hot meals and separated cabin and dedicated lavatory . J cabin is only available on their 787.

Thanks. W sounds like a decent product for 6-hour flight.

The menu should be available on www.westjet.com/menu, if you'd like to know what should be offered onboard.

Other than that, we look forward to you reporting back on this thread about the meal!
