Westjet Checked Bag...friends not in my reservation?

I have friends traveling with me. However, we each booked individual tickets on Westjet.

I have the World Elite Mastercard. Am I able to get their checked bags waived? How exactly do they "validate the checked bags"?

In retrospect, we messed up. My friend had Westjet credits on his account and I have Westjet points on mine so we booked separately. We should have transferred his credits to my account and then I book 1 single reservation.

No.

The free bag only applies to anyone on the same reservation as a cardholder. There’s no way to gift the benefit to people on other reservations.

The only hope is if the check in agent interprets the rules in a more liberal way than written. That also assumes they are given the discretion to fix such problems on the spot and the computer software permits them to suppress the baggage fee. I have no idea how likely that is at WestJet.

With other airlines I find more check in agents aware of the loyalty program benefits and able to fix such things and generally unaware of credit card programs and more reluctant to go beyond what the computer system thinks should happen.
