WestJet Gold on AF
I’ve been browsing this thread a bit and couldn’t locate the answers. I’m about to embark on a trip to Western Africa flying PE on AF later this month.
- Does WJ Gold give any perks with AF? All signs point to no. - For this trip, would you recommend accumulating WJ dollars or sticking to accumulating points with a SkyTeam partner? (Assuming I have 0 rewards accumulated in either program, Gold status for WJ and no status with Delta). thanks |

Flying AF (or DL, or AM, or any other WestJet “partner”) when you have status with WestJet nets you zilch. In AF’s eyes, you’ll be a no-status, unknown, infrequent customer.

If you have a shot at making status on any other airline (AF or DL), credit to their program. Otherwise, it doesn’t make much difference. The spend would at least earn you a few WestJet dollars back (if you credit to WestJet) — but they won’t count towards status. |
I find the Westjet dollars scheme rather pathetic in its earning potential. The base earning is something like 10 WJD for a 3,000+-mile flight in PE on AF. Earning for the same flight using SkyMiles or Flying Blue is a lot better. SkyMiles awards often start at 12.5K miles for North American itineraries involving WestJet and Delta, so if you build up enough miles for that, I would recommend that over WJ unless credit toward WJ status is very important.

Thanks to everyone for your feedback, I’ll be crediting points to my Delta account.
