Domestic check bag fee question

Hi all,

I cannot locate a definite answer from official website so I am posting here to see any expert can answer my question.

I am flying on YVR-YYC-YZF booked on Westjet website, and will be travelling with checked baggage. I know the 1st check bag for pax would cost 30-35usd, however, the fee I pay is per sector or for the whole itineary?

Also, I am brining a 29-30inch suitcase which is approximately 166cm in total for external dimension, may I know would it fall into oversize baggage fee column as the standard size is up to 157cm. How strict is check in at YVR airport?

Many thanks!

Baggage fee is $30-$35CDN+tax per direction. ie: YVR-YZF.

I can't speak for your oversized suitcase.

Does WS use the giant maw baggage machine DIY method at YVR? Even though there are lasers in them (no doubt to scan the baggage tag) I doubt they are tuned to spot 9cm in total dimensions (or any dimensions whatsoever unless it's sound an alarm there's a casket that stuck at the bend), vs. the contraption's goal of looking for 200kg bowling ball collections heading home. (aka more moolah for WS).

If a human then zero chance of that measurement. Not for something 4% too large.

Can't see them charging USD for an all-Canada route also.
