Silver Status and Basic fares

I just got my RBC Westjet World Elite Mastercard, which comes with complimentary Silver status for a few months. How does that work in terms of booking Basic fares? For instance, Basic fares come with a warning that says you can't book seats in advance...while Silver status says you can book seats in advance. So who wins that battle? ;)

Silver status allows seat selection through the vouchers in your account. It is clear in the terms and conditions of the seat selection voucher use:

”Valid for complimentary advance seat selection (i.e. prior to check-in) on any seat within the Basic, Econo or EconoFlex fare options where a seat selection fee applies; not valid to upgrade to a seat in Premium or Business, nor to select or change a seat during check-in when travelling on a Basic fare.”

So, if you can pay to select a seat in the booking flow, you can use the voucher. Also, can be used when booking directly, but not necessarily through other booking channels.

Thanks, that's what I figured but wasn't 100% sure.

Don't buy a Basic fare.

Ever. For any reason. Even if you can get free seat selection.

I wasn't aware that they offered Silver status with new sign ups, nor have seen it advertised. May I ask how you got that perk?

Hi, sorry, didn't see your reply until just now. I applied through this link: https://www.rbcroyalbank.com/credit-...07/?ASC=5D6002

If you go to that link it shows that you get the first year annual fee waived, 250 Westjet dollars, and Silver status through to Feb 28, 2020 (I just got my Silver status today). If you go through any other link to apply, it doesn't show the FYF and Silver status offer.

Some people have reported that even when using the first link to get FYF, they were charged the annual fee on their first statement and had to contact RBC to get it reversed. What I did was apply through that link, then took a screenshot of the landing web page just to prove what was being offered (the FYF and Silver status), just in case I had to prove anything to RBC.

There's a whole thread on this on RFD: https://forums.redflagdeals.com/rbc-...llars-2298263/

I did the same thing ...applied for the card and took a screen shot
