West Jet 15 Cancelation

Is there an explanation for why WestJet 15 (BCN-YYV) was canceled yesterday, 31 July? IAs a low cost carrier, I am concerned they may resist paying appropriate EU261 compensation, so I am seeking to know the reasons for the cancellation,

Thank you. "Controllable safety" issue sounds like EU261 should apply.

I've claimed EU261 from WestJet and it went smoothly. I had the money in 20 days.

Generally speaking, EU /E 261 should include any kind of maintenance issue since it's the responsibility of the carrier to have backup planes.

The logic is something along the lines of that plane breakdowns are expected to happen so carriers need to plan to have other aircrafts available.

I've received an email from WestJet notifying me that they have approved payment of compensation under EU261. I now have to wait for 2 additional emails - one that will let me claim the reimbursement and another to track the payment.
