Overseas European Flight: Free Meal for only 787 Dreamliner Passengers?
I'm flying economy to Barcelona next week from Ottawa with a layover in Toronto on Westjet and I am seeking clarification on whether or not at least free one meal is included. All I could find on Westjet's website is:
https://www.westjet.com/en-ca/travel...t/buy-on-board Boeing 787 flights to and from Europe:
Flights over 4 Hours:
So it seems like I'm SOL for getting a free meal because I booked an European international itinerary with a smaller aircraft. Seems kind of ridiculous that an airlines policy of whether or not you get a free meal is based on the type of aircraft you fly on an European international itinerary. |
It's not so much policy as it is WestJet's ability to update their fleet. The 767s weren't initially configured to handle meals for all pax on board, and they still aren't.
The updates required to an aircraft interior (galleys, ovens, etc) are really a pretty huge endeavor, and they mean additional downtime for the aircraft. My understanding (I could be wrong!) is that those other aircraft are going to be updated based on their 'major overhaul' schedule. Unfortunately, that didn't line up with when the 787 Europe service started -- so there's a gap in the offering depending on aircraft type. |
