KL codeshare on WestJet - what to expect?

Hi all,

Also posted this on an existing thread in the KL forum, but I'm guessing here's more information available in regards to what to expect from WS :)

I've booked a trip in J on the route AMS-YVR-OGG in December, all on KL flight numbers. During the booking KL said there's no J class available on the last leg (YVR-OGG) so they've charged me for Y (it shows as actual Y on the booking too). Fine, although a long flight... But for the return, they mention this is in world business class (Z), but my research shows there's only 737-800s operating on this route which have no business cabin on board. I'm thinking they should have sold me eco on the return leg (OGG-YVR) instead of business, correct?

More interestingly, I got assigned seats for YVR-OGG in row 4 (Eco) and for OGG-YVR in row 3 (premium eco). Does this premium eco count as business? I guess not... Looking for anyone with experience on this route or similar structure with KL & WS to see what I can expect... https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/imag...lies/smile.gif

Premium Eco is not business. You will get a standard Eco seat (3+3). The middle seat of the three is blocked out and the legroom s very good. Food and drink is included. The food quality is (to be generous) variable. This level of service is slated to be upgraded to "proper" J-class seating (2+2) and many aircraft should have been done by now, but he 737 Max issues means they have had no spare aircraft to allow them to take some out to do the refurb.

As of June 26, full network implementation has been completed with the new W premium economy onboard catering product

seating configuration will vary still as cabin is refitted with new wider 2x2 seats. It will either be 3x3 with middle seat blocked or 2x2.

With the 737 Max issue I forget where WS is with reconfiguring the NG aircraft with proper J seats. Possible this ac could be a 738 with the new bus class seats? Can anyone from WS provide an update?

Even with MAX grounding? MAXes are done.

Thanks everyone, that looks promising. Apparently the plane on the way to OGG has not been equipped with the 2x2 seating, but the one back is. But the flight is not until December, so we'll see what we actually get :)

I would agree that the WS Premium product is not truly J class, but intra-European J class is often worse than the WS Premium product. Note that Premium does not include lounge access.

Currently only 5 NGs have the new seating & cabin configuration (Tails 601,803,806,813 & 852)

We the chance to ride in one of the 737-600s that has been converted recently and it was very nice. It’s not as plush as AC’s business class, but I wouldn’t say it’s inferior. The FAs and GAs were very excited about the aircraft (a bunch of GAs actually came down the bridge to have a look, which was amusing). Service was excellent. We connected onto a 737-700 in the old config and it was noticeably less comfortable, which is what we expected, but it was interesting to see the big difference between the two. Service was terrible. We got one drink, an offer of food (which we declined) and that was it. No further offers of refills, etc. people had to go and ask the FA, who was sitting in the galley playing a game on his phone. It’s sad to see such big swings in service levels from one flight to the next...

I’d definitely book the premium seats we experienced on the 736, even at a higher price.
