First flight booked for 2019...WestJet

Flying to Vegas for CES and I had to book WestJet. I had to for the following reasons.

1. Price was half for comparable flight
2. I’m already missing my wife’s birthday that week. AC would have me missing most of my sons as well. This flight out of Vegas leaves at 5pm amd red eyes via Calgary. Puts me home in time for breakfast with the boy.

It hurt, but was the right decision.

When do you make the call to fly someone else’s metal?

Just wait until the first joke is cracked on WJ

You will long for the quietness of AC

In all seriousness, family should always trump status chasing

When do you make the all to fly someone else’s metal?
When? At exactly these moments.

If flying alternate metal could have assisted me in not missing 3 kids' birthdays in 2018 I would have done it in a heartbeat, even at twice the price, let alone half.

You made the right decision and should make the very same decision 11 out of 10 times.

As this thread is about flying WestJet it's been relocated to the WestJet forum for further discussion.

Family should come first, if you wish to remain part of a family and have kids who will show you the same respect when your roles are reversed.

I think the joke cracking has substantially subsided. There’s still a few but it’s mostly been toned down now, as far as I can tell.

Sounds like you made the right decision. (Also doing CES, booked a few weeks ago, and WestJet was also the better option out of Vancouver).

Be warned once you come over to the teal side you may actually like it. WS is quickly catching up to AC. There are a few teal coloured 737s flying around with real business class seats.

I feel good about the decision and I have flown WJ many times. I fact their plus product on the 767 to Gatwick is a great deal. Maybe this is the start of something. If only they joined an Alliance.

You realize they ditched the jokes years ago, right?

This is the benefit of paid J ... you simply take the airline that is most direct and most convenient and you get all the benefits of FF status. Imagine! WS doesn't have that just quite yet, but it will soon.
