They seriously couldn't just rebook people onto Mainline? Even Tigerair Australia does that without questions, for christs sake

If anything this really shows the absolute desperate need for some passenger protection laws

Would there be something in the licensing that would prevent WS doing a rescue flight? After all they are totally separate company's..

There isn't and it has been done before with one WS aircraft being used for the US flying for Swoop when they hadn't received all the authorisations on time needed to fly to the US. Typically WestJet doesn't have spare aircraft sitting around, other shuffling around such as getting aircraft out of scheduled maintenance early, flying extended hours on specific aircraft or consolidating flights on a route that has spare capacity at this point in time, would need to be done. Aircraft sitting idle is a very expensive proposition even compared with the cost of guest / passenger recovery.

If the pax know what to ask for, they may be able to get Swoop to rebook them on AC or WS since the tariff includes provisions for controllable delays.
Rule 90. C. 2. (c) In situations where other options have been deemed unacceptable, and in acknowledging that Swoop offers leisure focused service from secondary airports with limited alternate options, re-route the passenger in the same class of service to the destination named on the ticket, or applicable portion thereof, on the transportation services of another transportation provider within a reasonable amount of time. If the fare is lower no refund is provided, if and if the fare for the revised routing is higher than the fare paid by the passenger, Swoop will require no additional payment from the passenger or,

They could buy tickets on any airline or even charter one. It would not be switching the Swoop to WestJet it would be WestJet selling tickets to them and Swoop eating the cost. If there were real concerns (like some sort of license) they could have bought AC tickets. The length of time it took they could have sent them on Via Rail.

At some point low cost should not abuse people for a whole day or more.

That's horrendous! Even on the other discount Canadian airline that Transats the world, they have rebooked me on WS the same day when their once daily flight between YYZ and YUL got cancelled.
