1st WestJet 787 off the Production Line

This is the first photo I know of, the aircraft in the background, of course: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DtL_ExXWsAUaQF-.jpg:large

This first aircraft is still is not fully painted and hasn't got the engines on the pylons yet. All Boeings leave the production line with the rudder painted as the balance is affected by the weight of the paint, but the 787 also has the full vertical stabiliser (tail fin) painted before assembly and all composite fuselage and wing sections are painted white before exposure to the elements. After engine fit (when the engines are removed from the pylons there are weights in place to prevent the aircraft tipping on it's tail), final paint will see the rest of the livery applied, followed by flight testing before delivery at the beginning of 2019.

That is pure, undiluted nerdery. I read it with joy.

My passion for minutiae is now fully satiated (for the time being).

Per AirlineRoute on Twitter, the 789 is now booked for domestic service starting Feb 20 on YYC-YYZ

WS655 YYZ-YYC 0900-1105 then turns around as WS670 YYC-YYZ 1330-1910

I booked myself on the first flight in seat 1A... let's see if it holds.

I’m curious ... why does it take almost 2 1/2 hours to do the turn?

As the flights will be for 787 ETOPS proving and checking processes such as container handling and other operational aspects of the aircraft, it will only be used lightly with lots of buffering in the schedule to work the operational bugs out, before entering full time transatlantic service with the next two 787s in May.

Wow, the fares for the 787 flights are spendy compared to the others on the same day/route!!

LOL most days Premium looks cheaper than Economy!

When do the other two birds roll off the production line?
