WJ cans YYT-DUB

Media announcement from St John's Airport Authority this morning; WJ have cancelled the summer YYT-DUB service next year. Disappointing after losing YYT-LGW to YHZ last year. (& after spending a year flying that route & thus losing my AC status in favour of WJ which then was no use to me!).

The DUB service is being transferred to YHZ instead.

Guessed as much. YYT lost LGW to YHZ back in Jan.

Odd that an airport authority would have a media announcement about a route cancellation, no? Don't think I've ever seen that before!

Not that odd when you've just lost 50% of your transatlantic flight schedule! The story was out in local media so the airport authority had to comment.

The Nova Scotia population is about twice that of Newfoundland, so I presume that there is a larger market from YHZ than from YYT. As long as the plane can make it across the ocean, it is logical that they try to connect between as large population centers as possible.

Itís pretty obvious what WS is doing in the Maritimes.

The moment YHZ- CDG was announced, YYT-DUB was doomed.

New technology likely also plays a part in this decision.

I just hope that Westjet keeps expanding their YHZ TATL mini-hub. I'd love to see options to more Western European destinations, starting with AMS.
