A former WestJet employee has admitted to defrauding the company of more than $138,000 by issuing travel dollars to his friends and others who would pay him for the credits. Terance Gough pleaded guilty to fraud over $5,000 on Wednesday — ahead of his trial, which was supposed to begin Nov. 19 — after a plea deal was arranged by defence lawyer James Salimi and prosecutor Lucia Calisi. Gough began working for WestJet in 2008 in guest relations and began his three-year scheme in 2012. |
Wherever there is a chance for money to be made by the corrupt and criminally-minded it will happen. I believe there was a similar scam at another airline recently - just can't remember which one.

Ex-United employee issued vouchers for food instead of travel, and was able to get a bigger haul than the Westjet employee before caught. |

And then we have the other extreme: Easyjet flight attendant fired for eating a bacon sandwich given to her by managerhttps://www.stuff.co.nz/travel/news/88441210/Easyjet-flight-attendant-fired-for-eating-a-bacon-sandwich-given-to-her-by-managerI do think the early success of these crimes seduces the perpetrators into a false sense of eluding detection - but the accounting and monitoring typically catches-up eventually. |
Speaking of WS employees behaving badly....
This is everything we know about the jailed Canadian tourist in Thailand | Canada Live News Schneider, along with co-accused Lee Furlong, a British citizen, face a $40,000 fine if convicted of vandalizing a registered ancient artifact. Both 23-year-olds are also facing charges of public mischief and damaging city property. According to a Facebook account with her name, Brittany works as a ramp agent with WestJet and has worked out of the Fort McMurray International Airport. The same Facebook account also describes her as a ground service agent at Strategic Aviation Services, which is an aviation services company that offers passenger, cargo and ground support. WestJet does not provide comment on any personal matters regarding employees, a spokesperson said in a statement to CTVNews.ca. |

This whole thread has nothing to do with travel on WS, their fleet, routes or anything remotely travel related unless the fraud-y friends flew somewhere and service was poor or interesting.
The Thailand vandalism was settled for less than $40,000 as well. But has zero to do with WS and is a silly thing to post or continue posting on here. |

There is a tangential relationship to WestJet. If you don't like the thread - don't participate.
So if a WS employee does anything (could be good or bad) it should be reported here? Nothing to do with WS, nothing. They just happen to be a victim of a crime. |

It has no relationship at all. So an employee stole money or a contract employee vandalized something. Zero to do with what this entire website is about.
