Using companion fare in one direction only
 

My wife and I will be travelling YVR - YOW at christmas. She will be going earlier than I will, however we will be travelling back together. Given there is HST on flights originating out of YOW, I'm looking at booking a roundtrip ticket YVR - YOW and then using my companion fare for her, but she won't be using the outbound portion of the ticket. If she is a no show on the outbound flight, is there a way to preserve the return flight or will WS automatically cancel her return portion?

I've run the numbers and this works out cheaper than me booking a roundtrip ticket and her paying full pop on the return as a one way ticket.

All I can suggest is you call on the Gold number and see f you get a sympathetic agent that can find a work-around and/or bend some rules. If no luck first time, then HUCA.

The only "fix" I can think of is to but two separate tix for your journey and companion the souse on the one you need.
