Passenger’s Sexist Note Left on WestJet Flight Stirs Pilot’s Heated Response

"The cockpit of an airliner is no place for a woman."

"I wish WestJet could tell me a fair lady is at the helm, so I can book another flight!"

Comments left on a napkin aboard a YYC->YYJ WestJet flight prompted the captain of the flight herself to respond. Carrie Steacy, a pilot of 17 years, was "shocked" when she was informed of the napkin message.

As a woman, I am less "shocked" and more annoyed. What century are we currently living in?

I know what is worse than being a sexist; it's being a coward.
The idiot lacked the spine to say it in person.

YVR Cockroach Mar 4, 2014 12:28 am

Could, very well be, could be, the mentality of some from the area of flight origin.

FAA1996 Mar 4, 2014 4:35 am

Makes me angry and sad. The person who wrote this note doesn't belong in this century...

chinatraderjmr Mar 4, 2014 4:55 am

Whoever wrote this does have a good point..........I've been on way to many flights piloted by women, and on almost every one of those flights we had to divert cuz she just popped out a baby right there in the left seat :D:D:D

Baldpacker Mar 4, 2014 5:04 am

I've come to expect reactions like that when flying in the Middle East and Asia, but cannot fathom someone making a remark like that in Canada. Ridiculous.

This is ONE nutcase... why does a blatantly stupid comment from ONE moron make folks question "what century we are living in"?

Treat the comments with the contempt they deserve.... and move on!

Hey.. with luck said moron will refuse critical medical treatment from a female Physician!

Banish the miscreant to fly Air Canada for the rest of his life. :D

Notice the use of the scripture on the napkin?

Another good "Christian"....

Unfortunately, there still is a minority with an outlook stuck in the 50's.

BigJC Mar 4, 2014 7:15 am

So take the napkin and throw it in the damn trashbin. You just gave the nitwit what he wanted!

Tailgater Mar 4, 2014 7:20 am

Actually, the napkin makes sense. Women, as everybody knows, can't drive either (they're too cautious, indecisive, incite road rage) and so, what makes anyone think they can fly an airliner? Do you want a guy to wear panties? People are built differently. Would you want to drive a chick car such as VW Bug to 4 wheel around with Jeeps?

redreeper Mar 4, 2014 7:46 am

It's a note on a napkin, I think I would have given it the homage that it deserves and had a good blow. :D

Just as likely they were going home, no?
