How has your Westjet Rewards Experience been?

Just want to hear other's feedback on WJ Rewards? I really like the program, particularly because I fly on expensive Western Canadian routes (YEG, YYC, YVR, YQR, YQU, YMM) that would get me very little miles with AC.

My only compliant is about one in every 5 flights do not hit my account, and I have to do a request.

The Fly More Earn More promotion has been great. By December 31, 2012 I will have hit my $6K threshold for this promo, which will get me the following

Canadian Jet Away
International Jet AWay
500 WJ Dollars Bonus

Plus I will reach the top tier in the normal program which gets me another

Canadian Jet Away
International Jet Away

Plus threshold bonus'.

I started to use it, but quickly switched over to earn AA miles instead.

AA miles for me thanks! Getting $2 credit for a flight is not too exciting

I like that the return is in something akin to $ and not miles. Miles can be discounted too easily - today you need 10k miles for a flight, and tomorrow probably 20k. Don't get me started on award availability in "miles" systems.

Since I have the credit card I can redeem less than $20, which is great because I get something back much earlier. I don't spend $6k on westjet so in a miles-system I'd have to wait a long time to get a reward.

One thing I don't like: WestJet charges HST even on the WestJet Dollar part of a ticket purchase, thus devaluing their own rewards $. I did not spent this money, so there should be no tax on it. This is an issue with WestJet's billing system that should get fixed.

I have a grand total of 4 dollars in credits with them. Not enough to make it worth while to get up in the morning to fly them. Even if I hhad hit the 1500
dollar bonus mark, it would still be useless to me. A few seat selection coupons, so who cares.

How does the AA miles work? This seems like it may be better for me, although with all of the free companion flights I am getting, I am not sure.

1 mile per 1 mile flown. I tend to think it's a better value.

Perhaps unless you fly last minute Biz fares. I collect AA.

I use AA as well. That being said I love WestJet. I go to Canada for business about 4 times a year. Air Canada is such a disaster that WestJet has been my savior. I have been let down more times in one year by AC than I have by Aeroflot in 7 years of living in Russia. I once even took VIA Rail between Edmonton and Saskatoon rather than have to fly AC.

AA miles and WJ have been a lifesaver for me.

Not a knock on the wonderful times I have had in this fantastic country either, just AC is a customer service black hole.
