Where to sit for the volcano views (PDX)?
Taking the LH flight into PDX soon, and I'd like to sit where I can get the best views of the Cascades (Rainier / Adams / St. Helens / Hood / Jefferson) on approach into PDX.
Suggestions, based on the landing patterns? |
I'd venture to say the flight path on approach to PDX is usually heading west so you might see St Helens on the right (Rainier is a bit far away but you may see it as the a/c heads down towards PDX). Others would be on the left.

If you have a window seat, you'll be guaranteed to have good mountain views regardless of which side you're on.
However, typically the best up-close view is of Mount Hood, which would likely be on your left. I say likely because I've never been on the LH flight into PDX. But that's my best guess. Some flights, the peak of Mount Hood (11,000 ft) is even with the plane and is seemingly just outside the window. You could literally see mountain climbers with the naked eye if there were any there. |
Flight path is almost always down the Columbia River so St Helens, Rainier & Adams will be on the right and Hood, Jefferson & Bachelor will be on the left.
