Monument Valley hotel
 

A newly-built hotel has just opened in Monument Valley, overlooking the rocks. It's built, owned and operated by Navajos. Located right next to the visitor centre.

Years ago we stayed at Gouldings (sp). Hopefully the new hotel isn't a dump, and isn't expensive.

I stayed in this place last summer. Absolutely worth every penny!:); and just for the view alone!
Lots of families, kids, and teenagers; but that VIEW!!!:):):)

Interesting - I'll have to compare rates on this the next time I decide to overnight up there.

FWIW, I've stayed in Goulding's before and it's really a nice relaxing little place. I brought some extended family along for a tour, and we actually reserved a 3-bedroom house they have available. It sits high up and has nice views, was very reasonably priced, and perfect for a larger group of people.

For the points ******, there's a Hampton Inn in Kayenta.

The VIEW is a decent hotel. You are paying for the View as the rooms are pretty basic. You cannot beat the location. as it is built right on the rim of the valley. I have some pretty specatacular pictures from the couple of weeks that I spent up there.

If you go, ask for a room on the third floor, I believe that they call these the Star View rooms as they open up to the sky on the balcony. The Views are a bit grander.

The restaurant is ok, but nothing special. The food is good and they have a decent salad bar. The breakfast is also pretty nice. A lot of the sandwiches on the lunch menu are named after famous visitors to the valley. Some good Navajo specialties as well.

Rates seemed to be in the upper 100's, - 200's. Again, you are paying for the view.... I believe you also have to pay $5 per person to enter the park where the hotel is located.

Take a camera and enjoy!

Actually that Hampton would be my first choice, having been to the View... It is a very nice Hampton and even has a pretty decent restaurant right in the breakfast room, or is the other way around.. Either way, they have good food, though limited. Try the Fry Bread.

Would absolutely stay there again... Avoid the Holiday Inn there.

Kayenta is only about 20 mins or so from Monument Valley.

For something different, try the Desert Rose Inn in Bluff, Utah. Get one of the "cabins" -- which are very, very nice!

I'll add my vote for The View - the rooms are basic, but the view is what you're there for. Also, you are contributing to the success of a Navajo-owned venture that employs local Navajo as well.

The cuisine is hearty and tasty (especially the frybread), and although Tripadvisor reviews were spotty, we found the service at the hotel warm and welcoming.

You'll be the first on the Valley drive in the morning to see the sunrise and among the last to see the setting sun light up the rocks.

Rates are seasonal - we were there between Christmas and New Years and their rates were comparable to any motel chain even for a 3rd floor room. In summer, the difference will be higher.

In Monument Valley you will notice no signs about the water. It is contaminated with mining waste, and because there are no other options for drinking water the locals are forced to drink it. Because they drink it they feel it is ok, and offer it to all guests. Here is a link to water issues in the area

Due to lack of care and funding the reservations in our country are like a 3rd world countries in the middle of the US. When traveling through these reservations think like you are in a country that may not inform you of all issues you would know about at home.

Stayed at this Hampton Inn (Kayenta) 10 days ago. One of the most memorable, most enjoyable Hampton Inn stays I have ever had (and I have stayed with them a lot).

It's location is perfect for Monument Valley and Valley of the Gods not to mention Goosenecks State Park. IMHO, The View had location going for it but it was not worth the cost to us. And its food was barely mediocre.

Another vote for the Hampton. We stayed there last September and felt it was good value for the money... and we were able to get up before dawn to get up to a good sunrise point... the classic road picture looking south from 13 miles north of the AZ/UT state line.
