Consolidated "Albuquerque Restaurants & Things to Do Suggestions" thread

First time in ABQ - any suggestions for good local food? I love spicy food so any fiery ideas?! I'm happy to travel to find great food!

What about hotels? Sheraton Old Town any good? Any other suggestions?

Thanks so much!

When are you coming to town?

Padillas is my favorite, followed by the Frontier and Los Cuates. None of these places are high dining and they are tasty and local.

I believe you would need a car to get to all these places unless you are staying near the UNM campus.

Hmm, I think I may have to book a ticket to ABQ for May.

Work took me there a lot last year ...I'm not a huge Mexican food fan, but there's a place on Gibson where I got a wonderful breakfast with potatoes adovada -- ugh -- can't remember the name but on the north side of Gibson close to San Mateo. Some people like Cervantes, in that same neighborhood.

Other types spicy food would include places like Orchid Thai and Raging Shrimp.

My favorite restaurant in general though is the Artichoke Cafe. I also enjoyed Ambrozia and Zinc. These three are all moderately expensive ($15-25 entrees).

Hotels: I've stayed at the Homewood Suites, Brittania and W.E. Mauger Estate B&B, Marriott, Wyndham, Hilton Garden Inn, and Hilton. I'd rank them in about that order -- the high points of the first three being:
Homewood: spacious & new, free breakfast
W.E. Mauger: B&B atmosphere, wonderful gourmet breeakfast
Marriott: Nice gym and pool. Good beds and pillows.

Have fun!

Albuquerque - Things To Do And See

Going To Abq This Weekend --

Names Of Restaurants And Great Things To Do Please.

How Are The Casinos There?

Based on very limited experience - 3 visits - I would recommend driving an hour and spending your time in Santa Fe. I have found it much more interesting with many excellent restaurants and it is all very compact so that you can park and walk around to just about everywhere. Favorite restaurants are Santacafe, The Shed, and El Farol.

Sorry - don't know anything about the casinos in the area.

Used to live in ABQ. The Frontier on Central is a great greasy spoon type place (right across from UNM). Make sure you get a Frontier roll there. Another great dive is called Hurricane's where you can get a "Disaster burrito" (comes in 1 pound, 3/4 pound, 1/2 pound, 1/4 pound) beef and bean burrito smothered with red and green chili and french fries! It's on Lomas. Great place.

A great place for New Mexican food as well is called "Sadie's". Sadies is a converted bowling alley and has phenomenal food. I reccomend the stuffed sopapilas. El Pinto on the north part of town is great as well.

Enjoy!

By all means go to The Frontier. It is a unique cultural experience and the food is good. Nothing fancy, just very good Mexican, sweetrolls, breakfasts, and all kinds of other stuff.

You won't win a dime at the Casino's, but then again I am a terrible gambler

Go to Santa Fe ;)

A bit late, but there is a really cheap and cool thai restaurant on main street just a couple of blocks from the main public bus stop (towards downtown).

Suggestions on things to see and where to eat in Albuquerque? [merged threads]

Suggestions on things to see in ABQ? Will be there 4/8-11.

Any hints on what sorts of things you like to do?

Some possibilities within ABQ are:
-Ride the tram to the top of the Sandias (or hike up if so inclined)
-Visit Petroglyph National Monument
-Attend an Albuquerque Isotopes game
-Visit the National Atomic Museum
-visit the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center
-Walk around "Old Town"
-Go to the Frontier and eat a Frontier Burrito (get the OJ too)

A bit of a drive out of town:
-Tour the Acoma Pueblo (and buy one of the cool pots)

Of course there's also the option for a day trip to Santa Fe and environs.

There was a children's museum in Old Town that was very nice. So I would do that and Old Town. I would take a drive over to Sante Fe.

If you were there a day earlier you could head out of town to the original "ground zero", the site of the first atomic explosion. It is only open to the public two days a year, and one of them is April 7 this year.

I was just in Santa Fe a couple weeks ago and am heading back to see the Trinity Site on the 7th. I was wondering if the Pteroglyph National Monument was worth a visit (the Trinity site closes pretty early so I will have much of the afternoon in ABQ). It sounded interesting from the description. Thanks for any info.
