Third Runway Is A Go
 
From KIRO 710 Radio News this morning:

"Opponents of a one-point-one billion dollar third runway at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport are throwing in the towel. Suburban governments around the airport have spent millions of dollars fighting the project over the past eight years. In May, however, the Airport Communities Coalition lost a key state Supreme Court ruling that allowed work on the project to resume. Yesterday, leaders said they were dropping the group's last two legal challenges."

Thanks for posting this. Additional runways are controversial if a city is anywhere in the vicinity (YVR provides a nearby example).

This is good news. SEA needs a third runway. It's about time.

Wow, this is excellent news for SEA. What is the timeframe looking like for completion at this point?

The runway is expected to open late in 2008; once open the other runways will be closed for much-needed rehab (one at a time).
