Mt. Rainier and Washington Wineries

Thinking of taking a couple days and doing some hiking one day at Mt Rainier, we'll do this on a Monday so it hopefully will not be as crowded.

How long is the drive from Seattle to Mt Rainier, 2 hours? We're also looking for suggestions on a few medium intensity trails, nothing major.

We then were thinking of heading over to visit some of the wineries in Yakima.
This site lists a few: http://www.winedirectories.com

Any recommendations of Washington Wineries to visit?

I live in Yakima...our phonebook has a great map from this website showing about 25 wineries south of town. www.yakimavalleywine.com There are also a few tasting rooms in downtown. Plan on about a 2 hour drive from Mt. Rainier to Yakima if you are coming from the lodge at Paradise. In the summer the parking lot at Paradise fills up by about 10:30 or 11 on a nice day. The lodge is very nice there, although we never have stayed the night...

It looks to me like the high end Wash cab makers use a lot of purchased grapes, and lot of purchased grapes from vineyards that are far from their winery. Looks like most wine comes from the same 6 or 7 vineyards. The only three I have tasted are l'ecol 41, andrew will, and quiceda creek. Leonetti is tough to find in the DC area.

I'd go to those sites, find which of those vineyards are in the wherever valley you are going, and see if I could visit them. I'd call well in advance, and also call to find out if they vinify any of their own. Pepper Bridge, Seven hills and Klipsun apparently do their own, and while on seven hills, check the sidebar!

There a quite a few wineries in the Walla Walla area, just know that it's an additional 2+ hour drive from yakima to the southeast.

Yakima Winery Recommendations?

Anyone have recommendations on wineries to visit in the Yakima Valley? We plan to spend one to 1 1/2 days tasting next week.

Thanks.
