SLC Olympic Transportation System "Just Worked"
A transportation network that smoothed the way for millions of trips during the 2002 Winter Olympics also significantly reduced daily traffic, a state official said Monday.
John Njord, executive director of the Utah Department of Transportation, said the comprehensive traffic management plan put in place for the Olympics and resident cooperation reduced downtown traffic by 30 percent to 40 percent. Traffic in West Valley City and Davis County fell by 20 percent to 30 percent, he said. Truck traffic also diminished along Interstate 80. http://www.sltrib.com/ |
In my opininion that who ever designed, scheduled and planned that Trax system (or whatever it was called) grossly underestimated how many people would use it during the Olympics.
We found it easier to drive from the eCentre to Park City, than to use the public transportation system from the eCentre to Downtown. |
In the pre-games events that used TRAX, bottlenecks were identified. Folks were encouraged to use the Park-n-ride lots with shuttle busses instead.
