Thanks both for good suggestions... HH in DEN booked as a plan.
If no changes in itinerary can see if UA YYC will check bags through. She will have to watch out for liquids but good idea to avoid dragging suitcase and faster check in early hours as she has NEXUS/Global and should get pre-check.
I will make hotel reservation for IAH in case something happens and can get her on UA475 at 730pm to IAH eta 1056PM. That s best option and she can get more of a decent nights rest. I doubt I would be fortunate enough to get her on non-stop (UA750).
But will keep eye out for schedule changes or any fare changes where I can cancel and rebook reasonably.

Lucked out- YYC-GCM opened in Z class with over night in Houston with UA475. A lot better as morning flight out is 940am. Already had HI- Houston booked as suggested. Will keep HH for DEN in mind if needed in future.
