Extra Day in Durango...What to Do?
 

This September I will be with friends in Durango for about 4 days. We plan to do the usual fun things (Silverton train, Mesa Verde, others). Then they will all leave, and I will have an extra 28 hours until I catch my flight back home.

What is interesting to do outside of, but within a 2-hour drive of, Durango?

Chimney Rock Mesa fits your requirements. East of Durango, before Pagosa Springs. Like Mesa Verde, it is exposed and could be hot, so you may want to do it in the AM.

River rafting on the Animas, or is that already on your agenda?

Some members of our group are likely to veto rafting, so this sounds like a great idea for me to do after they've all left. Thank you Fredd!
