SLC Help Please
I’m ticketed between LGA and Salt Lake City in January for a ski trip. I may end up attending (currently waitlisted) the OWMegaDO (DFW-SEA-LAX) and then travel to SLC the next day from LAX. I knew it was a possibility so I purchased 2 one way tickets instead of a round trip. Rather than canceling the outbound flight and going directly from NY to DFW and shipping my skis and ski gear, it might be less expensive (since I don’t pay baggage fees when flying) and get me some more miles to fly to SLC with my skis a few days earlier and then travel that day or the next day to DFW from SLC.
Does anyone know of anyway I can store my skis and gear (one suitcase) at or near SLC airport or have it delivered inexpensively to the Canyons ski area? I’ve already checked with the SLC-Park City shuttle service, they have no way to store it and they won’t deliver it without me. Thanks. |
Don't know of any lockers/storage near SLC. There is a Post Office close by but I tried that routine once for holding package and didn't work. Maybe your best bet is to send out skis via Fed Ex/UPS and they hold them for you at location. I know Fed Ex has a branch in Park City. I think it was around $35 to ship out skis. Your local Fed Ex can help you out on rates, etc.

Where will you be staying in the SLC area? Some hotels will hold luggage for guests before/after their stay. Maybe check with your property?
Or if that would be too far from SLC, check with a couple in town now, then book at one that does for that one night before your flight to DFW. Given the number of people who travel there with skis, I can't imagine that this is a unusual request. Either that, or just make an appt at REI to get your skis waxed, then pick them up when you get back: http://www.rei.com/stores/snowshop.html |
Thanks very much. Staying in Park City, Grand Summit at the Canyons so too far to bring skis to and then return to the airport. (And once I get that close to the slopes I might just NOT return to the airport!;)) I may not have a night in SLC prior to DFW, might fly LGA-SLC-DFW same day. I found one shuttle service website that makes mention of storing luggage and found one storage facility near the airport that might have daily storage available, will call both tomorrow. Although it’s probably most convenient and may well end up being what I do, I’d like to avoid shipping charges as I’m happy to drag it to/from the airport and I don’t have to pay baggage fees when flying. Thanks again for the comments.
