The last time I went to Durango I took an all-day side trip to Mesa Verde National Park to see the cliff dwellings. It was an amazing trip, well worth the time. http://www.nps.gov/meve/index.htm

I agree. If you are into hiking, Telluride is a great place to spend a few days.
