Talking DEN scavenger hunt

Hi flyertalk,

I'm going to be stuck in DEN for ~5 hours with 50 8th graders (and a couple other chaperones) so I've tried to plan a scavenger hunt. We'll be at the airport from around 5:30 am till about 10:30 am this Sunday morning.

Let me know what you think of my clues, and what sort of DIA oddities I've forgotten (feel free to "solve" my riddles as well!). I'm planning on having kids take a picture of the referenced item as proof of finding it.

Thanks in advance for the tips - my students will appreciate it!

Airport scavenger hunt

Main terminal
A gargoyle on a suitcase
Three heads made of gold
A "clear" box that is blue
A "mountain mirage", from below
The Colorado state flag
Paper airplanes that are "rocky"
A passenger pigeon, in a glass case
A pirate (give him a hug!)
Frieda Warther's button collection
"Mother Earth" - looking like an alien!

Terminal A
The time in Mexico city (not quite in terminal A!)
Sideways train tracks
A tornado shelter
A place to mail a letter
A flight headed to another country
A place where you can watch people walk underneath you
A place where you can watch planes underneath you
A plane with an animal on it
"Mmmm.... Toasty!"
A "green table" (en espańol)

Terminal B
An astronaut!
A Starbucks
Jamba juice
A smiling "Croc"
"Beaded circle crossing" (blue arches? A way to talk to aliens?)
A place to test if your bag is the right size
A desk that's high up
"Red carpet club west"
A place to get a present for fido or fluffy
Babe Ruth
An upgrade list (are you on it?)

Terminal C
A Harley motorcycle
An Aztec ruin
Information about panels that turn radiant energy into electricity
A plane - inside!
"N10BD"
A place to buy tamales
"41-45 ->"

I think this is a clever idea, but please--for the sake of other travelers--make sure they act in an appropriate manner.

Living in a big city, I encounter people on scavenger hunts pretty frequently. They're often running around, yelling and making themselves the center of attenntion. For those of us who are just trying to get from Point A to Point B, having groups of kids blocking our path while posing for photos, pushing past us as we're trying to walk through concourses, etc., isn't necessarily appreciated. I don't mean this to sound like a party pooper--I love a good scavenger hunt--but I hope they'll just remember that others who are traveling may not have as much time to spare in the airport.

How about asking them to get a photo of the fossils in the floor of Concourse B? How about pictures of certain liveries? "Take a photo of the one that hibernates in the winter"

@friendlyskies - are the liveries also in B? I'm a science teacher so your ideas are right up my alley!

@chgoeditor - I'll make sure to keep the kids in line. Thanks for the reminder.

@localady - have fun and let me know how it goes!

Two others I can think of are both related to all the conspiracy theories about the airport. 1) The time-capsule, & 2) the mountain names in Navajo.

What a great idea! I hope the kids have fun.

The animal liveries are part of F9, which is based from Concourse A. However, you can see the F9 aircraft from the windows of Concourse B.
