Correct - no one knows the exact date... but it doesn't take much to realise its not going to be 18th March 2021. Thats just the date they were allowed to push it out to... just like the borders didn't open in September 2020 which was the last date.

18 March is 7 weeks away. A day is a very long time in politics. Nothing to do with health,

7 weeks is a long way away... however given the fed govt has blasted Qantas for thinking July would be possible I think that sets the scene. I know you want borders open tomorrow and keep predicting it every few weeks... but at some point you have to be realistic. Are we really going to open our borders now at a time that other countries are slamming theirs shut and the pandemic is in full swing.... all this whilst we don't have a fully vax'd population? given the govt as said its going to be October until we have everyone vaccinated... I wouldn't think borders would open until that point.

No idea where the 18 March date keeps coming from!
Perhaps you're thinking 28 March which is when all 3 major airlines (Including Virgin Australia) that operate across the Tasman have loaded in regular flights into the schedule. That being said just because they're selling normal flights doesn't mean it's going to happen. As others have mentioned, Qantas is selling international flights from mid this year but this doesn't mean they're going to operate (or if they do operate, that people will be able to freely fly on them).
Either way, this has got very off-topic from when Velocity Points can be used on international flights.

The date come from the AU Federal Health Minister emergency declaration. Gets extended every 3 months about a week before it is due to expire. Is one of the federal measures against Covid-19. States/territories have other measures under health and other state/territory laws.
.
For a while QR Qatar would "sell" seats after the emergency expiry date, even when obvious would be extended. Hence one of the reasons the many complaints about QR cancelling/bumping pax.

- 08 Dec 2020 Extending the human biosecurity emergency period by three months
The human biosecurity emergency period under the Biosecurity Act 2015 is set to be extended by an additional three months. The human biosecurity emergency declaration ensures the Government has the powers to take any necessary measures to prevent and control COVID-19, and protect the health of all Australians. These powers have been used on a limited basis following expert medical advice.
The emergency period, which has been in place since 18 March 2020, is now set to cease on 17 March 2021.

Yeah I’m looking at summer 2022 and still not showing anything. Frustrating to make plans.
