@Zol I believe you were given incorrect information - not uncommon with such outsource/remote agencies.

This 3YO article agrees with Etihad in that you get additional allowance.

For you to be advised accordingly on your membership benefits when travelling with Virgin Australia or partner airlines, I recommend contacting your Frequent Flyer department directly.
Please be guided that we have limited information on your membership and therefore unable to discuss the benefits as it is a program of Etihad Airways.
