Velocity Frequent Flyer Program
Name change from "Velocity Rewards" to "Velocity Frequent Flyer".
Being announced on AFF: (http://www.australianfrequentflyer.c...ent-32475.html) We have today launched the first stage of our new Velocity Frequent Flyer program. There has been months of research and feedback from the frequent flying community, especially the AFF collective, and now we can finally reveal how we have re-built from the ground up, a program that we believe is world class. A program that now offers:

terrific news...really pleased with the program changes...especially the status match

Indeed, the new Velocity program is quite generous. IMHO there are only two things that are missing:
- upgrades with miles on V Australia (Every mature FFP allows you to use miles for intercontinental upgrades.) - lifetime membership (see Qantas) (Of course there are other things that are way better than with Qantas, for example. It is just that these two aspects have a high priority for me.) Regarding the "new little alliance", it would make sense for Velocity to get a partner in Europe. The rest of the world is covered surprisingly well given the number of FFP partners. (Of course, you could also have an airline from Africa and South America on board, but it seems to me that this would be asking a bit too much.) |
As I mentioned on AFF, burn rates are slightly higher. e.g. BNE-SIN was 25k+$75, now it's 29k+$75.

As someone who has been a Velocity member for a couple of years but never actually paid any attention to it until today, I have to say I'm a little confused by the information on the website at the moment.
There seem to be two contradictory sets of information about status credits. According to http://www.velocityrewards.com.au/co...us/GoldStatus/ you need 500 status credits to get Gold, and http://www.velocityrewards.com.au/co...dits/index.htm has a miles-based earning table. But according to http://www.velocityrewards.com.au/co...atus/index.htm, Gold status is earned at 50,000 status credits and you get 5-7 points per dollar. I assume one of these systems is the new one and one is the old one, but which is which? |
The former is the new (and current) process; the latter is the old (now replaced) system.
Velocity status is now earned in a manner slightly similar to QFF's. |
BNE-DPS is cheaper now, was around 66,000 RT incl tax, now it is 56,300 RT incl tax!
I don't pay for tickets so status is not an issue for me. My Velocity miles are earned on credit cards and shopping and I plan to burn them on Virgin Australia tickets so I am happy with the new program! |

Gold member now require 500SC to reach that level. Best you go to the homepage of the website and recalibrate your bookmarks. Apologies for the confusion. |
I just received my new Gold Card in the mail and it looks like I have lost a month of Gold status. My old Gold card had a benefits expiry date of 01/12 but my new card says benefits expire one month after the review date which is 30/11/11.
So can I keep using my old Gold in January? Or have these changes meant I have lost a month of Gold status? |
