Called in and the rep assured me 2x that there would be no extra fees/miles/etc. other than the $50 admin fee for the change.
Put it through and they had trouble getting it to "reissue" so they had to send it off to some other dept. high priority to get the admin fee finalized but assured me it will not be a problem. Both VS and NH already reflect the new date and I was able to reselect my seat on NH's site.

So I guess good news that existing F reservations aren't requiring more miles to shift dates? (maybe this was expected but I was worried it might fall under the new price)
Thanks for sharing. Could you please confirm that this was all issued correctly without additional cost (money or miles)? We have two seats in F on different flights on the same day, and I was hoping to find last-minute availability to get us on the same flight. However, this was booked before the big increase in fuel surcharges last year, so the increase in mileage for F + fees would not make it worth it. Also, you mentioned you got the alert the day before your original flight. Was it >24h before departure? I was under the impression that VS could not issue anything on NH less than 24h before the flight. At one point they even told me it was 4 days.

Yes everything went through fine - I had reissue confirmation within 3 or 4 hours I believe.

As for the alert, a seat opened up on the same flight as mine but departing one day earlier. The alert regarding the opening (and therefore the release of the seat by NH) happened about 16 days before the day of the flight.

Thanks! You're right, I misunderstood the day before part. Since my post I have chatted with VS and the agent told me any difference in fees and miles would apply, so either you got lucky, or the chat agent was not well informed. I was hoping to get something in writing from them in case something opens up but I shouldn't get my hopes up, it seems.

I wouldn't put much stock in anything a chat rep has to say, or anyone else until the seat is available and you are talking to a phone rep who can actually pull it up in their system and see what it's telling them re: cost. And get the rep's name/identifying information before you dive in just in case they majorly phluk up and screw up your existing seat.

That's exactly what I'm afraid of. We also have a minor time change on the return flight, so NH is offering free rebooking +/-7 days but I'm worried VS will screw it up and make me pay the higher mileage to reissue if I change the flight on the NH website. We'll see what happens over the next couple of weeks. In any case, thanks for sharing your experience, I appreciate it!

What's the current status on The Room and the 777 vs 787 config on LAX-HND? Does it become 787 only (no new J Room) starting April?

I found 2 seats with J, at a good time (the afternoon) but it's with the old business class seat. Are these still worth booking or should I just hold out and try to find a flight that has the new seats? The best I can hope for is the new upgraded cabin with business out of LAX, non stop but I've yet to find one at the moment. I've seen pictures of the old seat and while not bad, the new seats just seem significantly better.

As mentioned upthread, unless you are flying in the next 6 or so days LAX will be served by a 787 for the foreseeable future in which NH only has the older staggered product installed.

I must of missed it. Thanks for the info. What I wasn't aware of is how gimped LAX is getting in terms of flights. It's such a bummer with no more first class and stuck with old business class seats. I thought this route would be popular enough where they wouldn't start cutting down the good stuff. If I wanted the new stuff, is SFO my closest option? I've seen ORD and IAD (Houston I think?) but the extra flight with hours and layover might not be worth the better seat.

Unfortunately, if you're looking only at NH, then yes there is no more first out of LA for the upcoming scheduled period. SF is getting the new F/J for the upcoming period. ORD will have the older F/J. Not sure if you meant IAD (washington dc) or IAH (houston), but neither has F now - both are 787s with the older J, as is Seattle.
