Best option to Taipei?
Hi all,
We are looking to book a one-way redemption to Taipei - we are 2 adults and 1 infant. I was hoping we would be able to book AF/KL by now, but I cannot wait any more and I need to book the flights. The way I see it the options LHR to PVG or HKG and a connection on a separate ticket (I don't think partners are of value here - ANA does not do one-way and Air China to PEK costs more miles without any obvious benefit). I have been to HKG a few times and I am a bit familiar with it but I have never transited on separate tickets - I have never been to PVG. We will have checked bags and we would ideally want to avoid having to clear immigration + collect bags + check bags in again. We would also like to avoid spending a night in either city if possible. I am familiar with the risks of traveling on two tickets and I hope a long connection time will allow us to make this work.
Is there any airline Virgin interlines with so that we could check the bags through to Taipei? What do you think is the best option in this case?
Thanks in advance!

And you can certainly never rely on any airline through-checking bags on separate tickets.
Personally I would just fly via HKG with lots of spare time. Passport control will be easier than PR China, and you can easily use some Avios for the HKG-TPE.
