Delta Award to Europe 2 O/Ws vs. R/T Fee Difference
New to using Virgin to book Delta awards and noticed that booking a R/T to Europe is cheaper than booking two O/Ws... guessing due to funkiness with [airport] taxes / fees.
For business, I priced out the following on various dates with availability. LAX-CDG 50,000 miles + $5.60 CDG-LAX 50,000 miles + €291 LAX-CDG-LAX 100,000 miles + $129 I've already booked the LAX-CDG flight, but there's no availability on a workable return date (to SLC & SEA as well). Question: If a return date opens up, can I call Virgin, pay the $50 change fee and add the return leg onto my existing reservation and just pay the fees as if I originally booked r/t? Or would I have to book as a o/w and pay €291? Thanks! |
I think the preferred method is to book a return up front, then call later to change dates. But that could just be for ANA and the return-only award policy.
I suspect that VS would be willing to turn a one-way into a return upon payment of the change fee, but I couldn't say for sure. |

Will report back results if I ever find a good return flight. |

Was able to add the return flight. Virgin collected ~$170 which was in line with the current r/t fee less the $5.60 already paid plus a $50 change fee.
