Upgrade options from Economy - clarifications

Virgin seem to be coming in at around £750 for non-Saturday East Coast trips through our corporate TA portal, which is a heck of a lot less than BA.

So VS it must be for some upcoming work trips (must book in Economy). maybe a change for the better maybe not :(.

As a good FTer, this means I've been trying to figure out how to avoid actually travelling in Economy as much as poss :p. On BA I'd look for a pro-active cash upgrade, or hope my BA status kicked-in once in a while, or use avios.

So how to get into the best situation on VS?
1. I'm unclear on miles upgrades. On the one hand R-bucket fares (which is what I have this first time) appear upgradeable, but on the other hand one of the VFC web-pages says only Y&B buckets work on corporate discount fares.
So .. anyone found they could / could not get miles upgrades on 'R' bucket corporate fares?
If applicable, Work-around(s)?

2. Do VS do POUG offers, or similar. £150 or so cash to upgrade online via MMB into PE 1-way? and are these feasible off corporate fares?
(I tend to be content to pay for these out of my own pocket. BA had an interesting own goal whereby TA bookings and open-jaw bookings failed to offer POUG, or certain other miles upgrades ... clearly useful to understand these things on VS and work with them )

I realise its a whole other ballgame as to whether 1 or 2 are available for a particular flight, but at least useful to know if these things exist in general.

Any other hints or advice welcome.

Don't know about your first question

On 2 yes they do - accessed via 'manage your bookings' IF they are offered at all - will depend on destination and loads. I don't think it being a corporate TA booking would make a difference for a cash upgrade. But I think your £150 is an underestimate. Usually something in the range of £250 per leg.
