Miles earning on each other's flights... no plans to merge FFPs, brands and cultures to be maintained, reciprocal lounge access.

As long as you get spend and earn on Delta then this could prove very useful.

Not entirely sure about Skyteam - not too many airlines there that I'd use..... Unless you can make a joint booking and fly Ex-EU, ie AMS with KLM

Wirelessly posted (iPhone: Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; Android 4.2.2; Nexus 4 Build/JDQ39) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/27.0.1453.90 Mobile Safari/537.36)

Head over to the DL forum to hear their mileage redemption experiences... DL may be the stingiest of all the US carriers when it comes to releasing seats.

It says on that page

Delta and Virgin Atlantic will also work towards co-location at London Heathrow and other airports where possible.
VS didn't want to move to T2 as that would have meant giving up the Clubhouse, oneworld probably don't want Delta moving into their terminal just as they've managed to kick Star Alliance out (i.e. *A moving from T3 to T2 when it opens) and the other SkyTeam airlines would probably rather not have Delta move from the SkyTeam terminal.

So would VS move to T4? The ST lounge is not bad, but the Clubhouse is one of the biggest competitive advantages VS has against BA for point to point flights. Is there any room for a Clubhouse in T4? They could move MH and QR to T3 as they're (or in QR's case about to become) oneworld airlines, would the lounges they use by big enough to replicate a Clubhouse?

It might work if VS UC/Gold checkin at T3 still and have a walkway to T2 where everything else is.

Why do they need to be located in the same terminal ? There are numerous examples of code share/ alliance partners operating from different terminals. Just because it is a JV should not change that - it is the schedule and FF opps that count.
