Just a final note on this, my miles have now credited, and with the current TP/miles offer, and being gold, I got 13,086 for the original W booking (4901x2 + 3284 100% base), so with the upgrade I still made over 3k points

I'm just trying to understand this, out of interest. I thought you bought a one-way W (having gone out on a one-way G to BOS)? So as a gold-card holder you would earn 8662 miles, wouldn't you? So if the cost was $1936 (I think that's right), presumably you paid a little extra YQ ($185?) + 10k miles to get to UC? You gain 4 TPs and 8662 miles, so net cost of around 1300 miles and $2100.

If you had had 20,000 miles available, you could have just bought the one-way Y (B class, I think? $1325) and upgraded (same additional YQ + 20k miles) into the same UC seat. You gain 3TPs and 6916 miles, so net cost of around 13,000 miles and $1500.

Conclusion: I think you've paid $600 for <12000 miles and 1 TP.

Just another way of looking at it... (all intended to be friendly)

Err, confused now

Pasted from FC account:
15 Jan 2013 Airport Upgrade BOS-LHR Prem.Econ.to Upper Cls -10000
15 Jan 2013 Virgin Atlantic, BOS-LHR Premium Economy 4901 4
15 Jan 2013 Global Cabin Support Offer. Bonus miles and tier points 4901 4
15 Jan 2013 Gold Membership 100% Miles Flown Bonus in Premium Economy. 3284 0

Your prices are right, I paid $1936 + a little extra at the airport (roughly $100 from memory) for the upgrade surcharges. Hmmm, you might be right about originally buying the Y seat, but I had no idea about upgrading at the airport before this, and was happy enough in PE (I like the big purple seats).

No offence or anything taken btw! Always happy to go through calculations as hopefully will help people in future

Yes I still paid for that. Worked out £250 total, which was great, but I couldn't change it so had to just let it go.

DOH I am sorry, I did all my calculations assuming you flew back from NYC, not BOS. Also I hadn't realised you benefitted from the bonus miles/TP offer (thought that had finished) -- sorry. It does make sense now.
