May have missed this, but...

My elevate points are about to expire, but I don't forsee myself flying VX in the near future. If I purchase points will that renew my account for another 18mo?

Thanks

Adding Houston?

I read something a year or so ago that said VX might be adding Houston (not sure if IAH or HOU) soon...any news on that front?

Good question. I've never checked luggage with them. Their online check-in process claims that it does, but I'd like to hear from someone who has tried it.

yes it does, they have a separate line for checking luggage at LAX. You have to have a boarding pass in hand to use that line. They have computers about 10 feet away, so you can check-in, get your pass, and then get in the luggage check lane if you want.

Expiring elevate points: transfer Amex MR?

Similar question:

Will transferring a few amex MR points to Elevate reset the expiration calendar another 18 months?

Thanks!

Couple of notes.

I think LAX has MCO and LAS, but not mentioned in the FAQ. Also, the whole upgrade cost process from MC to MC Express to MC Select to First could use more information.

I think as a Silver, I am supposted to wait to see if my MC Select upgrade goes through and wait to check-in to see if I should purchase FC upgrade or not? But I am not sure.

Now that SQ has become a full partner, time to update partner list perhaps?

True, you should get the upgrade to to MCS if its still available. You also are eligible to select a MCE seat free too. But with regards to upgrading to F, at the 12 hr mark, you will have to start looking to upgrade. Gold members get a window to upgrade at the 24 hr mark. And of course Red members can upgrade at the 6 hr mark.

This part of the OP needs correcting, as it only applies to full fare F:

Q: What are the change fees associated with changing your flight?

A: For coach tickets, you are charged $75 to change your ticket (via the website). This includes re-booking to take advantage of a fare that has gone lower. For First Class tickets, there is no fee for changing tickets/pricing.

Also, another Q re: status - I cannot find anywhere if there is a waiver or lower fee for status pax re: rebook/cancel/change, etc. (so I assume there isn't one).

Quick question:

I have this flight tuesday morning: LAX-SFO-BOS

Can I upgrade only one segment? SFO-BOS for example? Or just LAX-SFO?

Or do you have to upgrade the whole thing?

Also, if you upgrade the whole flight, would that be $299 or $299 + $79?

Update:

So just to answer my own question in case someone else is interested:

I was able to upgrade the flights independently, so I just upgraded one segment.

Here's the weir thing: On the first segment I got the MCS upgrade about 12 hours before departure, but I didn't get it for the second segement until 2 hours later (which makes sense, 12 hours before the second segment departure).

But then I was unable to change seats on the website and check-in. I had to call to have them select my seats.

Upgrades are cash-only. New website does support the upgrade flow at checkin.

1. I've never seen where you can upgrade for points, only money.

2. Not yet tried the new website, it has a number of issues which are not yet sorted. Best is directly on the phone.
