In regards to the OP, I trust you were sitting in row 10 and the college hooligans were in row 9. Because that's the only way VX's explanation would work.

Yes, I was sitting in row 10D, premium/emergency exit row which incurs a $15 fee. I wanted this seat because I normally fly First Class on VX but could not justify paying $269 for a one-hour flight from LAX to SFO. The hooligans were in row 9 to which I believed to have been a premium seat (because I remember it being premium) however, turns out that row 9 is no longer a premium seat so that's where I stand corrected. :)

Thanks SFO1K, I stand corrected on the existance of that. I believe at some point those will be premium seats, but up to now they have not been.
