JFK - SFO - How does VX rate?
I just bought four tickets from JFK to SFO for a family trip in June. VX had (by far) the best prices. But reading the postings makes me wonder - how does the overall in-flight experience on VX compare with the other big players on this route (food, entertainment options, service, leg room, etc.). Thanks to you VX veterans for your thoughts.

Paying for exit row seats is definitely worth it. Although on our trans-con there were a lot of exit row seats vacant which other pax grabbed (FA's didn't mind), so we *could* have gotten them for free. All staff that we encountered were very nice (opposed to grumpy UA staff). There was an agent at the gate well before boarding. No long lines (even on Thanksgiving eve - VX terminal @ SFO ). I'll go out of my way to book VX again. Although the routes I travel make it kinda difficult. ...I'm based in Canada (YEG) and usually travel to SFO, ORD and BDL (also within Canada to YYZ and YOW). For now I can only really book VX for holiday travel (thinking of LAS and/or SEA next month from SFO). My wife and I are both UA 1P (*G) and preferred our flight to any we've had on UA E+ (I enjoyed it more than F on an A319). Other ppl's experiences may be different. We may have just caught them at a good time. |
Prismwiz just posted a good trip report ^

flying NYC to Cali because my girlfriend and i are in a bi-coastal relationship, i definitely prefer flying VX.
It may sound silly, but being able to eat whenever i want, and being able to get water - unlimited - whenever i want - are the main reasons for that preference. i may not eat at all on the flight, but that's not the point. it's the fact if i want to, i can. i have a choice. as for the water - well, i'll easily drink 100 or more ounces in the trip - so yea, that's a big plus. |
Tree brings up a good point - not often mentioned. There's a fridge in the back of the plane that's "self service" with bottled water. You can help yourself whenever you like.

Sidenote: the original plan for the minibar was to stock them with not only bottled water, but also soft drinks/juices as well. Don't know if that will ever come to pass.

I hope it does - that's a nice addition. I recall seeing that as well in early material before the carrier started flying.

However, I assume the service would be similar and that the flight would pass by just as quickly proportionaly.
