Starting with your very first flight, you'll earn 5 points for every $1 you spend for travel on Virgin America. Then, in the coming months, you’ll be able to redeem a free trip for as few as 4,900 points. Earn a free flight after as few as 4 roundtrips!

On Virgin America, you will be able to redeem your points for any unsold seat on any flight at any time. We won't complicate your plans with annoying holiday blackout dates or capacity restrictions, and we won’t have complicated redemption charts. We simply want you to enjoy the rewards you’ve earned. Period.

As an eleVAte member, you’ll have access to all the features you need to manage your travel online. Like keeping track of your past and future flights, points, and credits. And you won’t have to fill in all your personal information when booking – after you have selected your flight(s) as an eleVAte member it’s only 5 clicks to book!

Virgin America and our partners will offer some extraordinary eleVAte opportunities. As in concerts…parties…special events…dream trips…space travel (no, we’re not exaggerating).

... wasn't VX going to announce more details on their FF program? (that info has been around for a while)

Depends on your definition of "around for a while".

I believe that this part has only been around for a few weeks...

Personally, I think a $ based system is a lot better than the traditional mileage-based programs.

No, miles based systems are better. There is no way to trick a $ based system. Mistake fares yield more FF miles per $ on most other airlines rather than VX.

Better for you - worse for the airline. Using a $$ spend model is economically better for the carrier, which means it has less outstanding liability and greater overall profitability, which should translate to greater viability as a business. So depending on which side of the table you sit on, and what your long term goal is...

100% agree with SFO 1K. The VX program recognizes and eliminates a headache that legacy carriers probably wish they could now jettison... bottom feeding lowest $ MRunners that devalue entire FF programs.

My best customers are the ones that spend the most money regularly, not the ones that buy special seasonal promotion deals, and then complain and demand further discounts because they didn't get what they expected.
