VX and international terminals
 
How did VX manage to get to fly out of the international terminals at both JFK and SFO? I haven't flown VX between SFO and JFK, but have flown in and out of both international terminals.

I have to say that they are both beautiful spaces (especially as compared to their domestic counterparts) and both really add a certain glamor to traveling--soaring ceilings, lots of glass, flights to all parts of the world.

Needless to say, I am excited about flying from SFO-JFK next year the first opportunity I get. I enjoy international travel, and hate domestic travel. I imagine flying between SFO and JFK in VX first, or even coach, will be like flying internationally.

Anyone fly VX between SFO and JFK, and care to comment on how flying through the international terminals enhanced (or maybe didn't enhance?!) the experience?

don't know about SFO, but at JFK Terminal 4 is not entirely International.

a number of domestic airlines use it for domestic travel...

Flew JFK-SFO just after thanksgiving. At JFK the gates that they used were on the right of security so it was very busy (then again it was right after T.G) and they tryed to board 2 flights (LAX & SFO) together...pretty crazy at the gate. SFO T1 is great. Clean, airy & bright. I think Jetblue also uses this terminal as well. All in all SFO T1 is nicer.

SFO T-1 is a dump. That is not the international terminal (which is not numbered). VX uses the terminal @ SFO because of gate availability. Nothing more. I'd expect that when the old int'l terminal (which would be T-2) is restored, there will be a lot of airline shifting.

Like JFK's terminal 4, SFO's New International Terminal is not 100% international either. jetBlue and some other carriers also use the same terminal as Virgin America at SFO for domestic flights. Its really not that bad of an experience.

where will VX be in SEA?

I hope not in the S sattilite which is for NW and international flights, I've had bad experiences on the train such as stopping before the station of the N gates and waiting five minutes for a mechanic to fix it.

I hope they go to the A gates, the newest and openest facility. Although, I could see them going to the B gates because of open gates or the N gates to provide some advertising against UA.

I flew VX from SFO to IAD in October. One thing worth noting is that SFO's int'l terminal is not only vast, but also really quiet for hours at a time. To put it in perspective, it has fewer int'l flights than LAX (for now), but 2x as many gates and probably 46x as much passenger space.

The "G" wing of the terminal, home to United and its Star Alliance friends, is busy 2x a day - early afternoon when a bunch of flights leave for Asia, and late night for Asia/Australia. The "A" wing, where United's enemies (including VX) live, is about the same, only substitute "Europe" for the first "Asia". The rest of the time, which is when a lot of VX and JetBlue flights leave, it can be really quiet.

Which isn't bad. Under these conditions, who needs a club lounge? :cool:
