VX Status Segments on Reward Flights

So I am not sure how I didn't see this clarification before....I was reviewing the status segment language for Virgin America Elevate. I know that if you take a reward flight yourself, you get the segments. Pretty straightforward, but upon reviewing the language, it appears that if you make a points booking for someone else, YOU get the status segments even though you are not flying. Although if you fly with that person with points, you don't get double segments for the same flight.

This begs the question, if you are flying paid ticket and you booked a separate points ticket for a friend; do you get double segments for the same flight? This seems to be quick easy way to requalify for elevate gold this year (and subsequently MVP Gold for next year)....

Thoughts?

In my experience, it is the opposite. If you book 2 award tickets in the same PNR, both get credited to the one using the points. If you book a segment when the person using the points is not traveling no credit for either. This is likely an IT problem created when AS added segments and nobody has bothered to fix it. Elevate will be gone in a few more months, so it is obviously not a priority to fix.
