Do companions get to board early if 1 person buys priority boarding a la carte?

I couldn't find an answer to this on Google or here in FT. I don't usually fly VX, and I'm booking my wife and kids on a flight and am looking at the a la carte fee menu. I'm wondering if I buy priority boarding for 1 person (my wife), but not the kids, will the kids get to board with her (as is the case for me on AA)?

I think it is solely up to the gate agent, but from what I have seen they tend to honor the earliest boarding group with small parties. That said VX does board families with children under 5 between MCS and priority, so if you are in that group and priority security isn't important to you I would just go that route.

Our kids are 8 and 6, so we're overage on that program. But this is helpful to know. I'll make a decision as we get closer to the date.
