First time on VX

We took our first flight with VX yesterday (6/22) from IAD to SFO for a pre-cruise trip up the west coast. 10am flight so I decided to get up at 3:55am and see if we could upgrade to FC. All 8 were available so for a little over $300 the 5.5hr trip went a little nicer. I checked 5 minutes after the upgrade and the 6 other seats were still open so I guess I was the only early riser ;)
When we boarded the other 6 seats were filled, actually the flight was almost full as they were asking to check some carryon luggage.

One thing we noticed is that the VX crew (from the Cap to the Gate Crew) seemed very happy, like they really wanted to be there. Nicest plane we have been on so far for domestic travel.

Luggage was slow at SFO but then 4-5 VA flights all had arrived at about the same time from the East Coast. Took the skytrain to rental car building.

SFO rental car area was a mad house. We could barely slide through to the elevators to get the Hertz on the first floor. There were a lot of folks also at that counter but I found my stall w/car awaiting and we headed north.

Will be taking VX back to the east coast in 2 weeks ANC-SFO-IAD.

Has anyone done a upgrade while on a earlier flight using the gogo wifi service? ;) There might be sleepy folks on the redeye from ANC-SFO so I can upgrade from SFO-IAD.

Not to knit pick, but VX is Virgin America, VA is Virgin Australia, and VS is Virgin Atlantic.

But yes, everyone I've talked to at VX likes working there, especially compared to their old airlines.

Opps, I was doing a little research on getting from Wash DC to Australia/New Zealand for a cruise next year and got my initials mixed up.

Flights can cost more than the cruise itself! Caribbean cruises are so much easier for East Coasters ;)

You get the Caribbean, amazing beaches, and we get Mexico and dirty water. Sounds like a fair trade, right? =P

Got back last Saturday, luckily left SFO earlier in the day before the Asiana crash. Not sure why ANC was jammed packed at 11:30pm Friday night. TSA line was long but went fast. Learned a sweaty back (double shirt) will trigger the TSA scanner ;)

The ANC-SFO flight at 12:50am was packed, luckily the DW and I had the exit row. Was able to upgrade to FC for the SFO-IAD run. After being up since 5am Friday to get off the cruise ship and then a 6 hr fjord boat ride then a long train ride from Seward to Anchorage the FC seats were nice.

The VX checkin crew at ANC were able to combine our 1-way (ANC-SFO) to the 2nd leg of our RT (IAD-SFO-IAD) so our luggage was waiting for us at IAD. VX also automagically removed the $25 baggage fee from the SFO-IAD leg when we upgraded to FC.

Both flights were packed. Hopefully my next vacation will allow us to use VX again.
