New Route: SJC-LAX
VX will announce new SJC-LAX service later today.

Clearly they are trying to accelerate their demise.
Going off this pattern, can we expect LAX-OAK next week? |
Well its certainly an interesting move, although I don't think four short hauls risks putting them out of business
Cons: Saturated route, possible cannibalization of current LAX-SFO Pros: Service from a hub to a city that they have extremely strong brand awareness, SJC is a good business travel market, short haul is fairly low risk. |
Wonder what the introductory fares will be?

Indeed, it is.
It's official release from VX: http://www.virginamerica.com/press-r...s-angeles.html VX will have 4 daily RT. Give it some more competition against DL & AA. |

Hysterical! |
I'm imagining they are going to plan other routes from SJC and this was the only slottage they could start with. Could also shift some flights from SFO to better serve and get repeat customers. thumbs up at increasing flights out of SJC.
If they want to really increase rev. though why can't they start serving airports that desperately need some love like SBA? |

If they want to really increase rev. though why can't they start serving airports that desperately need some love like SBA? Since high-priced fuel makes long-haul flights proportionately more expensive than short hops from San Jose to Southern California, (Virgin CEO David) Cush said, "we saw this as a low-risk way of putting our toe in the water." That may eventually lead "to bigger things that I know the city of San Jose wants," Cush said, but "it will be a year or so before we look at adding" other flights. http://www.mercurynews.com/business/...ngeles-flights |

The City of San Jose and several high tech companies have been courting Virgin America to move to SJC... the airline is very popular with the young wealthy techies. This was on NBC 11 at 6 tonight. Working in Silicon Valley at a Multi-Billion dollar organization... yes the young ones love VX... only time will tell if this will work... I hope it does, SJC is 20 minutes from my house, easy to get in and out of, free wifi, and lots of power ports. Great wine bar as well!

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/delta...oute-news.html http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/alask...-5-1-13-a.html http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/ameri...-response.html I don't get why VX is going to join this bloodbath. For them, they have to compete with WN on price and convenience. WN has 65 weekly SJC - LAX flights and VX is going with 4 flights a day (28 per week). If you are going to fly VX, would you drive to SFO and fly SFO - XXX or fly SJC - LAX - XXX on VX? |
