I don't watch much TV at all, save the occasional news show and football.

As long as I have an english-lang news channel (doesn't really matter origin) and ESPN International with Monday Night Football, then i'm satisfied.

I do get BBC news streams etc from the internet but due to their being a license fee to watch British TV you can't (as far as I know) download regular programmes. BBC America is a must once I become less nomadic!

The number of suppositions in that comment is frightening!

Personally, my favorite is Walker Texas Ranger in Italian. I have no idea what is being said but it sure sounds good.

I am addicted to Jeopardy! and it is shown in the afternoon in my area so I always record it and watch it later. I discovered years ago (before dvrs) that I could pop a VHSC (for camcorders) in the adapter and tape shows using my vcr. I would then take the VHSC tapes with me and watch them on my camcorder. Now I have a dvr so I record the shows on dvd and watch them on my dvd player or laptop when I am in Europe.

I really enjoy watching quiz shows while in Europe. I manage to get the harder questions on Who Wants to be a Millionaire broadcast on German and my German is quite basic. I also like to watch The Weakest Link in France. My favorite game shows are those shown in England. We saw one where the contestants had to run a three-legged race with a nudist as a partner and then had to buzz in by urinating (they were seated on toilets behind doors with pee pee sensors); it sounds bizarre but was soooo funny. I wish I could remember the name of the show. The finale involved giving a new car to the winning contestant, but her best friend had to club the car with a big hammer everytime she answered a question wrong.

Well, I can't imagine holding out Asia as an example of good American TV.

All I ever see in India is hours of Caroline in the City and Valerie's Family.

BBC World and CNNi start looking pretty good after a couple of those.

I was staying in an American chain and there was a large number of English speaking tourists and businesspeople at the hotel. From a consumers perspective, they should offer more options for their English speaking guests.

I am sure that if I were staying at a hotel in Texas there would be a number of Spanish language TV channels at the Marriott hotel in Dallas!

Anyway, I missed American TV in Europe.

OPEC is headquartered in Vienna, for reasons beyond my understanding. Also, Europe is out of reach of some US satellites but inside the broadcast area of some Arab and South Asian ones.

While away...

I actually enjoy BBC or MTV Europe.

In Brazil I also enjoy Sony Entertainment TV.

I do miss some shows... Desperate Housewives, VH1, Oprah...

I travel to Europe at least twice a year this drives me bonkers, especially since they just keep playing a tape of the same newscast over and over every 30 minutes.

The question had to do with Europe, but I'll answer it for Asia: mostly no, maybe some yes. If it's offered I'll take some of it, but I don't get much craving otherwise.

Favorite things are Simpsons re-runs on Star World, the Tonight Show and Conan on either CNBC or maybe a local broadcaster (like RPN in the Philippines, I think), or Letterman on places he's carried, like ntv7 in Malaysia. And CNN International, though it's interesting if there's any English-language newscast on the local TV (like Malaysia's own "Nightline").

What I miss LEAST is American-style local newscasts, what with up to 90 minutes, tons of teasers, overemphasis on crime stories, duplication of network news, weather that takes 10 minutes for 15 seconds' worth of information, and so on. The 30-minute newscast is an idea that still lives on in most countries, and I think the shorter length solves many of the problems.

Count me in the camp that *does* miss TV. But it's mostly because of sports. I enjoy watching the Red Sox in Taiwan, where they have ESPN. Traveling to Europe makes watching American sports very difficult.

I hate the jet lag when I visit Europe. I ususally wake up in the middle of the night, unable to return to sleep. The softcore porn on several channels does take the edge off, though.

I haven't read any of the responses to this post but personally I find this post very sad. You travel to watch American TV????? How about exploring the culture you are in, studying the language or reading a book?
