We are probably going to visit my lovely wife’s friend in Denver for a few days. But that hasn’t been confirmed yet.

If that doesn’t happen I was thinking of Atlanta because that is a major city that we can fly direct to out of GRR using Delta.

But does anyone have any ideas of some other places that might be fun but not too expensive?

This will be a four or five day trip total.

And if we don’t do it this year suggestions will still be useful for the future.

Both places are great for spending time with family. However, if you can't visit these places, I recommend going to Las Vegas. This is a world-famous destination for entertainment, gambling and, of course, glitz. A stay of 4-5 days will set you back nearly $1,000 and will leave you with a lasting memory.

my vote would be for New Orleans. Fantastic food, great historical and pop-culture sightseeing, generally much warmer than Denver in Dec/Jan (if cold is not your favorite thing), unbelievable partying in the streets unlike Lost Wages (if that's up your alley), full-fledged casino gaming, and a whole host of other things to recommend it at what should be an equal if not lower price point than Vegas.

My New Year's plans for the past few years:

NOTE: Remember bowl games and the hotel prices go crazy in towns with big Bowl Games on New Years weekend. So, check hotel prices before you buy airfare, they might be crazy.

1) Washington DC. We spent two separate NY in DC. It was cold but fun. Great restaurants, went to the monuments and the zoo. Saw the Pandas banging on the door to get back in to the heated enclosure. We found a random black tie event to attend and had an absolute blast dancing and drinking and meeting fun people.

2) St Augustine FL. We rented a VRBO on the beach and had a nice time in St Augustine. The city was festive and all lit up.

3) Nashville. My friends came here and we hunkered down and did take out in Nashville during Covid. That being said, Nashville is pretty crazy that weekend with a bowl game and concerts and the hotel prices might be high.

4) Isla Mujeres. We've gone the past 2 years and there is a huge party on the malecon that lasts until sun up. We never go to the party, but the island is very festive all weekend.

5) Cleveland. Not the best pick but my friends couldn't get away so I went and visited them and we did a bar crawl of Ohio City on New Year's Day. Chilly but fun.

6). Scottsdale AZ. This year we have a VRBO in Scottsdale and plan on hiking, relaxing, and drinking in the heated pool and jacuzzi.

I like staying in VRBO's on NYE weekends because you can have a nice dinner and a celebration at home without having to deal with crowds and NYE madness. That being said, Washington DC was surprisingly festive that weekend. And the restaurants had table service and lots of fun things planned. We ended up at a couple of real fun parties.

Some cities have decent new yr evr events and some cities don’t have much.

with neevyrs falling on a Monday many families doing visits can do thrm thst weekrnd after Xmas. It’s quite posdibly ehrn I’d be getting together with family.

in the souther citues you have to watch the college bowl schedule becsuse today before the game or the morning of you can high airfares.

I have family in nashville. One year we did holiday stuff there and on my flight out was a bit unusual becsuse instead of a 50 seat or less aircraft it was a 3x3 plane due to the fact thst night of the day I flew out was the nashville bowl game.

places thst do have new yrs parties sre likely going to have high hotel rates near the party.
